Fed's Lacker Tells Bloomberg Radio U.S. Can Take Rate Rises Well

Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond President Jeffrey Lacker shrugged off weak inflation readings and said the U.S. economy can easily deal with central bank interest rate increases when they arrive. In an interview on Bloomberg Radio Friday, the official said he didn’t think the risk of raising rates too early is “gigantic” for the economy. He didn’t say he would like to see short-term rates boosted off of near-zero levels soon, however, and explained the timing of interest-rate increases would be governed by the performance of the economy, which he said has been enjoying a “solid” performance….(read more)
